About Tarah
A Proven Voice for Area 4
Tarah Cousar-Johnson has dedicated herself to the students, families, and educators of Area 4 in the Sumter School District. Her record of service, not only as a school board member over the last four years, but also as a former high school teacher and assistant principal, reflects a deep commitment to academic excellence, community investment, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Tarah knows education and she knows business. While a school district is a place for teaching and learning, it has to be treated like a business, especially when its budget exceeds that of all other businesses in the county.
When you re-elect Tarah, you're choosing a leader who has come to know your community (St. John/Shiloh, Mayewood, Mayesville, Salem, Wilder, South Red Bay, Turkey Creek, Stone Hill and Pocotaligo), understands your schools, and in the last four years has proven how she handles situations that benefit and put students, schools, and the community first. Her active engagement throughout the district and in the broader community through her civic and personal involvement has benefited many students and families, and speaks volumes to who she is, what she does, and all that has been accomplished. In Tarah, you have a true professional who gets the job done every time.

For What Does Tarah Stand
01
Student Achievement
Raising academic standards and expanding resources so every student in Area 4 has the tools to succeed continues to be a priority. This starts with early literacy to college and career readiness.

Community Investment
Building stronger partnerships between schools, families, and local organizations. These things lead to creating a safe and supportive environment where children learn, thrive, and become productive citizens.
03
Fiscal Responsibility
Ensuring every dollar in the Sumter School District budget is spent wisely has been my experience as a board member. Continuing to prioritize classrooms, students, and teachers, while avoiding spending that does not yield results, is key.
